A bittersweet old Cuban song which expresses a longing for the days when &ldquo,the pearl&rdquo, &ndash, the island of Cuba &ndash, was free. The lamenting text (which can be sung in Spanish or English) is set to a slow waltz in a style reminiscent of the late 19th century popular songs of Spain.
