Bertold Hummel's Symphonic Overture was initially part of the Orgeon Symphony. It was then revised as a work in its own right and given the title Symphonic Overture. This work, which lasts about eight minutes, is conceived from one thematic idea. It explores the technical recources as well as the rich tonal colours of the wind band. It is suitable both for concerts competitions. Bertold Hummel was a pupil of Harald Genzmer. He was a choirmaster in Freiburg, and then until his retirement, Professor of Composition at Musikhochschule in Würzburg and director of the Studio für Neue Musik [Studio for New Music].
