Zoltán Pongrácz was already in his 50s when he discovered the techniques and genres that enabled him to express his artistic ideas with a unique and unmistakeable voice. As a former student of Kodály his early works betrayed the master’s influence. In the 1960s a scholarship made it possible for him to study in Western Europe, and resulted in a broadening of his musical horizons. The catalyst for change came with his discovery of electroacoustic music, and he became a strong devotee for, and advocate of this new musical trend in his native country. This short monograph is the first synopsis of his work, and includes a detailed catalogue of works as well as a selected bibliography.
