Among piano teachers, his music is an 'insider's tip': Born in Osiyek (now Croatia), the composer Marko Tajcevic (1900-1984) wrote many easy piano pieces for music lessons and, like Bartók, devoted himself to the folk music of his home country which was a source of inspiration to him. After studying in Prague and Vienna, he first lived in Zagreb from 1924-1940 where he worked as a music teacher and organized concert series with folk music from his home region. After the Second World War, he moved to Belgrade where he was a professor of music theory and composition at the local music academy. The present volume contains numerous easy-to-play and instructive piano cycles: For the Young - Six Miniatures (on South Slav folk melodies) - 2 Little Suites - For Children - Sonatina (1923) - Sonatina in F (1947), and - as first publication - Tabatiere a musque (A Music Box), a short piece in the high register notated in the treble clef which is reminiscent of a music box. Valuable teaching liter ature, easy but not simple, tonally interesting due to the use of modal scales, of great technical and formal variety - a real discovery for lessons and the competition 'Jugend musiziert'.
