Elektra is a one-act opera by the German composer Richard Strauss, with a libretto by Hugo von Hofmannsthal. The story is an adaptation of the Greek tragedy of the same name by Sophocles concerning Elektra the daughter of King Agamemnon, although Strauss provided a score quite apart from his contemporaries in its modernist leanings, presenting the horrors of the story in comparison to Sophocles' original tragedy.
