Compose en 1839, le nocturne op. 37 no 2 constitue un exemple caracteristique des melodies passionnees et perlees en tierces et sixtes qui conferent aujourd'hui comme hier aux oeuvres de Chopin leur charme tant apprecie. Si aucun manuscrit de cette oeuvre de l'op. 37 n'est parvenu a la posterite, une copie a graver de la premiere edition parue des 1840 chez Breitkopf & Hartel a Leipzig, corrigee de la main de Chopin, a ete conservee. C'est evidemment cette copie qui a servi de reference pour etablir l'edition urtext.
