Commissioned by the BBC and first performed in September 2003 by the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jukka-Pekka Saraste, to critical acclaim. Scored for large orchestra and cast in a single, though sectional, 28-minute span the work exemplifies the composer's kaleidoscopic yet finely detailed sound-world.
