To this day, Eugene Bozza (1905-1991) remains one of the most prolific composers for wind instruments. He composed seven works for horn, with En Irlande premiering in 1951. Featuring on both the ABRSM and Trinity grade 6 syllabus,En Irlande is dedicated to Monsieur Leferme, a professor at the Conservatoire National de Valenciennes, where Bozza was Principal for much of his working life. As the title suggests, En Irlande is influenced by the country Irelandand is based on an old Irish melody. During this Bozza work for horn, contrasting sections, changes in time and key signatures, variations in dynamics and articulation and the use of extended techniques are heard. Being such aversatile piece, En Irlande is an exciting addition to the horn player's repertoire.
