Farkas Ferenc: Sonata per violoncello solo (1932)
First edition
He was 27 years old when he composed the Sonata for solo cello. The three-movement structure of the work (slow-fast-slow) follows classical traditions, but the influence of Hungarian folk songs can also be recognized in the motifs and themes of the movements. Despite its indisputable beauty, melodic richness and naturalness adapted to the possibilities of the instrument, the Sonata remained in manuscript. It was published more than eight decades later at the initiative of the renowned cellist Miklós Perényi, with his editorial assistance in 2014.
