Jindrich Feld is one of most renowned Czech composers. He studied composition at the Conservatoire and the Music Academy of Prague and finished his studies in 1952 earning a doctorate. At first, he worked as a free-lance composer, from 1972-86 he was a teacher of composition at the Prague Conservatoire, as from 1990 director of the Department of Music at the Czech Radio. Feld has composed works for all instrumentations and genres. But his particular interest has always lain in the wind instruments. The horn sonata created in 1989 is a rewarding piece for concerts and competitions. Written in a moderately modern tonal language, this piece full of brio consists of a fast first movement, a lyric second movement and a cheerful final movement which takes up the rhythmically changed theme of the first movement. Suited as advanced audition piece for 'Jugend musiziert'.
