Ivan Rezác composed this piece to mark the 150th birthday of Robert Schumann in 1960. The title derives from the political events happening in the Czech Republic at that time: Just as memorials to former heroes were being torn down, the torso of the planned Schumann monument survived. Ivan Rezác clearly demonstrates Schumann's variation principle and analyses the speci&#64257,c formation and tectonic method using his own musical material, without, however, quoting speci&#64257,cally from any of Schumann's works.
