Daniel Gottlob Türk (1750-1813) was a German composer, music teacher and organist who played a major role in the revival of Handel's music. The present edition contains two volumes by Türk written for children, published in the composer's lifetime with the title: Sixty Piano Pieces for Beginners and Twelve Pieces for Use in Teaching. In the preface to Sixty Piano Pieces for Beginners Türk writes: ''When choosing the titles of these pieces - which may seem somewhat striking at the beginning - I had the particular aim in mind to draw the attention to the dominant character or some peculiar feature of the given piece, helping thereby the student, according to his capabilities, to approach as much as possible the generally required level of performance. For this purpose, I have selected some verses by famous poets, adages, proverbs as well as a short description of contents.''
