Die Feen' is Richard Wagner's first complete opera, Beethoven, but especially Weber and Marschner are the models Wagner cited as his musical influences. Although Die Feen as a whole seems like a concession to the then popular taste with regard to subject and style, Wagner was nevertheless able to put his own mark on it by changes in the plot and by partly expressive harmony.
