„The greatest praise I have heard from many people was that these works are „audience-friendly. Most of Balassi’s poems were written in the verse form to which he gave his name; they are for the most part strophic works. In terms of content and message, however, Balassi’s images, oppositions and witticism are highly madrigalesque. Drawing on these sources I sought to create a blend of 16th-century Italian musical features and the colours of Hungarian prosody. The result is noticeably Hungarian in effect, especially in the pieces where, in keeping with 16th-century custom, the theme is a Balassi-era Hungarian tune.".László Virágh
