In József Karai’s (1927-2013) choral work consisting of three short sections, the music accurately depicts the lovely poetic images of the poem by Zsuzsa Beney (1930-2006): the appearance of light, the silvery glitter of dew, the unfolding of rose petals, and the mother’s song about the flight and chirping of little birds on a fresh spring morning. The first version of Hajnal (Dawn) was composed in 1976, dedicated to the choir of the Kassai Street Elementary School in Szolnok and their conductor, Éva Rozgonyi. The composer revised the work in the late 1990s. This publication contains the second version, which he considered to be final one.
