French composer, Robert Planel (1908-1994) was the son of composer and founder of the Music School of Montelimar, Alphonse Planel. Planel junior was an exceptionally accomplished musician, reflected in his composition, RomanticSuite for alto saxophone and piano. The sixth movement of Romantic Suite, Sad Song is a sublime, legato piece for intermediate level saxophonists. With a typical performance lasting about three minutes, Planel's Sad Songaddresses a wide range, chromaticism, dotted rhythms, dynamics, tempo changes, key changes and variety in performance directions.
