Pabst is big name in the history of piano art though his contribution to world musical culture and in particular the musical culture of Russia - is much wider and heavier. The German by origin who became the Russian citizen Pavel Avgustovich Pabst (1854-1897) within the last 20 years of the life remarkably proved as the outstanding pianist, the respectable teacher, one of the leading professors of the Moscow conservatory, the founder of own pedagogical school, as the composer and the editor.
Addressing to Tchaikovsky's music, Pabst created fantasies on subjects of operas ''Evgeny Onegin'', ''Mazepa'', ''Queen of spades'', the ballet ''Sleeping Beauty''.
