The Sketch?s to Sunset are composed on the base of the music to the film ''Sunset'' by Alexander Zel’dovitch after Isaak Babel’s play of the same name. Several versions of this composition exist.
The action of the film takes place in Odessa during the First World War, focusing on the story of the Jewish gangster Mendel Krik’s family.
The music resembles some queer mixture, the ingredients of which are tango and the so-called klezmer music (instrumental music of the Jewish Eastern-European Diaspora).
