This is the first publication of the Symphony’s second version, based on P. A. Lamm’s manuscript with the author’s corrections.
The author’s manuscript (corrected and supplemented for the first edition) and the Symphony’s first edition were used while the process of proof-reading. Creation dates of the second edition are indicated on the first page of the autograph: ''Orchestration beginning on July 15, 1947.'', and in the end of the manuscript: ''Instrumentation is completed on September 7, 1947 on the day of the Moscow’s 800th anniversary.''
All the peculiarities of Prokofiev’s spelling are left in the text.
