This textbook is a continuation of the ''Reader for the Cellist. Pieces for Primary Grades'' and is recommended for working with secondary school students of children's music schools. The plays of this ''Reader'' are more complicated in terms of their technical and artistic tasks, they have a more detailed form. They are arranged according to the principle of character contrast and according to the degree of complication of musical and technical tasks. For the planned advancement and development of the student, the teacher selects works taking into account his individual characteristics. Only then is the child's interest in the studies and the studied work possible.

In the work on the pieces of this ''Reader'', the student masters the technique of reading notes in the tenor key, the technique of playing double notes and chords, harmonics and melismas.

In the appendix to the ''Reader'' there is a ''Dictionary of musical terms'', which replenishes the student's knowledg e of foreign terms obtained in elementary grades, as well as a ''Brief Biographical Dictionary'' containing information about those authors whose works are included in this textbook.
