Sergei Mikhailovich Slonimsky (born 1932) holds the centre of the Russian modern music stage, being the author of all genres compositions. Among his opuses for theatre there are the musical drama ''Virineya'' (1965-1967) to L. Seifullina's novella, chamber opera ''Master and Margarita'' (1970-1972) to M. Bulgakov, opera-ballad ''Mary Stuart'' (1978-1980) to Ya. Gordin's libretto, drama per musica ''Hamlet'' (1990-1991) to W. Shakespeare's tragedy translated by B. Pasternak, chamber opera (drama monody) ''King Ixion'' (1993-1995) to the ancient myth and the tragedy by Innokenty Annensky, the Russian tragedy in 14 visions with three epilogues and overture ''Visions of Ioann Grozny'' to Ya. Gordin's libretto, drama per musica ''King Lear'' (2000-2001) to W. Shakespeare's tragedy translated by B. Pasternak, ballet, symphonies, instrumental concertos, cantatas (among them there are the ''Voice from Choir'' (1962-1963) to Alexander Blok's verses, ''One Day of the Life'' (1998) to the ''Thous andth Chapter'' by Dhammapada translated by V. Toporov), Requiem for soloists, choir and symphony orchestra (2003), so as numerous choral, chamber-instrumental and vocal compositions.
''Antigone'' - oratorial opera is composed in 2006 after Sophocles' tragedy, the text of which is slightly abridged in some places.
