The ''Russian Suite'' for balalaika an bayan is one of the most remarkable instrumental compositions by Alexander Dugushyn. Its style is close to the Russian lubok pictures (cheep popular print with humorous, sometimes trite narration dating the 18th - beginnin of the 20ieth centuries). The composer himself resorts here to traditional devices of folk music, i. e. melodious themes, colourful facture, garish effects, vivid and impressive development with worked out articulation.
Each movement of this composition addresses to associative perception. Thus the whole suite is built on the programme with the scenes of various mood.
