Although in 1937 Sergei Prokofiev (1891 - 1953) made up a separate ''compilation of 10 piano works to consist of those pieces from Romeo and Juliet which were the easiest to be transcribed''*, it was another compilation of transcriptions of pieces from the ballet that was most popular in teaching practice, done by L. Atovmian (1901-1973), a well-known musical and social figure as well as a composer and a pianist who lived to declare Prokofiev's and Shostakovich's creativity. In the 40-s Atovmian made up two compilations of interpretations of fragments of the ballet for two and four hands. Both the compilations entitled together ''Children's Album'' were issued by print collotype in the Musical Fund of Russian Composer's.Union in 1947. It's the first compilation presented in this edition. The editor has only done a few corrections in graphical notation.
