Valery Gavrilin’s violin music refers to the early period of his creation, when the young composer was enthralled by the art of his idol Dmitri Dmitriyevich Shostakovich. Large-scale constructions, facture, perfectly visualized in graphic, refined intonations peculiar to different imaginative spheres - all these features seemed to have been inherent in the chamber genres of the great Soviet composer, all these features are easily discovered in Gavrilin’s violin opuses dating the beginning of 1960ies.

However, mature Gavrilin was not striving to return to these compositions. Nevertheless, there is Gavrilin’s melodic cantilena, keen dynamic stroke and exceptional fantasy to be noticed in it. Some of these pieces were tried at the young violinists’ regional competitions, meanwhile being published only for the first time.

Violin parts are edited by the distinguished Petersburgian violin connoisseur and teacher Savely Markovich Shalman. Piano part is edited by the young pi anist Igor Kirilenko. The publication is intended for the concert and pedagogical repertoire.
