Khachaturian, Aram [Chatschaturjan, Aram]: Concerto-rhapsody for Piano and orchestra. Score
The genre of concerto takes special place in Hachaturyan’s creation. The composer confessed he preferred colourful brilliant style, where improvising element dominates setting liberated competition between the soloist-virtuoso and symphony orchestra. The first triad of instrumental concertos (for piano, violin and violoncello) appeared during the 1930-1940.
The second triad embraces concertos-rhapsodies of one movement (for the same soloists) referring to 1960ies. The Concerto-rhapsody for piano and orchestra completed in 1967 became the last composition by Aram Ha chaturyan in this genre. Its premi? re took place in Gorky (Nizhny Novgorod) on December 9, 1968.
