Georgiy Portnov graduated from the Leningrad Conservatoire at the composition class in 1955. He is the author of many programmatic symphony works, the opera, the ballet, several chamber vocal and instrumental compositions, 8 musical comedies, music to 16 feature films for cinema and TV, music for nearly 70 dramatic plays, plenty of songs and music for variety orchestra.
Most of Portnov’s creations are composed for children, among which the opera ''King and Cinderella'' is hitting all possible marks.
The opera is intended for the professional vocalists and musical theatre, being also staged by amateur actors.
The inviting libretto with the Ye. Swartz's film script excerpts made the fairy personages be close to contemporaneity. Thus the characters are endowed with vivacity existing according to the dancing elementas the main expressive narrative ground.
