The enstaging was realized by A. Ya. Tairov according to his own scenic composition, formed from out the texts by A. Pushkin’s ''Egyptian Nights'', B. Shaw’s ''Ca?sar and Cleopatra'' and W. Shakespeare’s ''Antony and Cleopatra''.
The premiere with Prokofiev’s music took place in February 1935. Alexander Metner (the composer Nikolai Metner’s brother) conducted the orchestra.
