'The Wanderer’s Songs'' to lyrics by Chinese poets of the Tang era is one of the most mysterious and innovative works of G. V. Sviridov for its time. The philosophical mood, meditation and aloof depth of Chinese poetry translated by the outstanding Russian sinologist Y. K. Shchutsky became the starting point for the creation of a six-movement vocal cycle, describing life-long wanderings. According to the author's concept, this composition bears ''a feeling of the East and at the same time a feeling of being lost, some kind of a provincial life''. The work completes the Sviridov’s early period and bears the features characteristic of the ''mature'' period with its epic lyricism, deep feelings and thoughts. This edition is the first one to acquaint the professional performers and fans of G. V. Sviridov with a composition unusual for the creator of romances to Pushkin’s lyrics or the vocal poems ''Russia Cast Adrift'' and ''Petersburg''.
