That year of 1802 had made Beethoven feel dissatisfaction with his previous compositions, hence he had violated all his connections with early Vienne se classicism.
However, this symphony is still close to Mozart and Haydn's ones. Meanwhile its large-scaled construction, gigantic instrumentation nourished with abundant winds, heroic marching themes and loud contrasts which do proclaim the new symphonic style to be born.
