By the late 1960s, Zsolt Durkó (1934-1997) had become in foreign countries the most frequently performed contemporary Hungarian composer.

He obtained his diplomas in Composition in Budapest and Rome. His musical language is at once both Western European and consciously Hungarian in flavour and he is able to find a link between the traditional and the most contemporary of musical developments. This personal musical vernacular also finds its place in the greater scheme of contemporary music and is manifested in a remarkably rich life oeuvre. Durkó’s Chamber, Symphonic and Vocal compositions have acquired international recognition. Initially they were awarded prizes in Rome, Montreal, Budapest and Paris. In due course they won the Koussevitzky, Kossuth and two Bartók-Pásztory Prizes, Durkó’s compositions are performed internationally; from London to Australia, from home music festivals to the Salzburg.

This is the first comprehensive publication embracing the complete works of Zsolt Durkó.
