With her Suite for flute and piano, the young Frenchwoman Clémence de Grandval established herself as a major French composer of the 19th century. As piano and composition student of Frédéric Chopin and Camille Saint-Saëns, she understood the musical trends of her time and was an active member of the new French school La Société Nationale de Musique.
