Best-known as an internationally sought-after pianist, Thomas Larcher has presented an impressive series of CDs on the renowned label ECM New Series. But he has become increasingly successful as a composer as well. About his piano piece 'Naunz' recorded by ECM he writes: 'The name refers to an Alpine region in Tyrol which, to me, has always been a place of refuge and of experiencing nature. But it also leaves room for onomatopoeic associations. The piece even listens to the sounds, and it was composed in a phase when I began to occupy myself with tonality again.'
