Despite the Concertante Overture being almost 60 years old, the piece nevertheless captures listeners through its young and carefree freshness. The string orchestra is joined by solo winds and percussion. Hummel's music is so colourful, vivid and powerful that the listener can immediately imagine how the curtain rises upon a play while this music is played. The differentiated score, with its chamber music layout, can be mastered by good amateur ensembles and music students.
