This collection contains real rarities: a selection of songs from Bartók’s youth (between 1900 and 1916) that were not published during his lifetime. These include German-language love songs connected to Schumann’s Lied tradition, a composition by Kálmán Harsányi, and arrangements of Hungarian and Slovak folk songs. The collection was compiled by renowned Belgian Bartók researcher and the first director of the Bartók Archive in Budapest, Denijs Dille, based on the manuscripts found in the Bartók legacy in Hungary. Zoltán Kodály also helped to advise the compilation and publication process of this 1963 volume.
