Zoltán Kodály composed the work Te Deum for the 250th anniversary of the recapture of Buda from the Turks. The composition is written for four solo singers, mixed choir, organ, and orchestra. Kodály utilized the Latin text of a Christian hymn from the 4th century for this piece. The composition reflects Kodály's profound religiosity, to which he remained faithful even during the years of the Stalinist dictatorship.
