Six Figures, for solo cello, was commissioned by Ulrich Heinen in 1998 for a series of concerts featuring Bachs cello suites, and the first of these six miniatures has something of the character of a Bach prelude. Thetitle refers to figure skating because each of the pieces is more or less cyclic in form.
