Lajos Huszár has been one of the outstanding figures of Hungarian composition and forums of contemporary music in recent decades, winning the Erkel Prize, the Bartók-Pásztory Prize, and twice the Artisjus Prize.

A scion of the Great Hungarian Plain, the roots of his work are nurtured by the soil of this mythic landscape: the sound of his music is traditional, rugged but also poetical, East-Central European and Hungarian at the same time. His style is innovative, subjectively lyrical. Taken individually and en bloc, his opera, several song cycles, the Passion, the Resurrection Oratorio and the Icons in memory of János Pilinszky all go to prove that he is a current master of the great vocal forms.
