'Commissioned by the University of Texas at Austin in honour of its centennial in 1983, Centennial Symphonywaswritten for the University of Texas 'Longhorns Bands,' Glen Richter, Director, for performance in the spring of 1983. I composed and scored it during the latter part of 1982 and completed the work inJanuary1983.

The intent is a festive display piece, a 'Band Gala.' Throughout the work there are references to the regional background' Mexican, French, cowboy etc..There are also variants on 'The Eyes of Texas' and'TheYellow Rose of Texas.' Although scored for a standard concert band, Fiesta uses offstage Trumpets as antiphonal choirs.' - Morton Gould
