Heinrich Heine was a favorite poet for Mendelssohn. In Wasserfahrt, or Waterway in English, Heine provides a pictorial poetry that Mendelssohn seizes upon. Throughout the short piece the listener senses the insistent rocking of the boat and slapping of the water. It's great to have another masterwork available for male singers.
