The solennelle en l'honneur de Saint-C&eacute,cile is one of the few orchestral works of Gounod.

The work was premiered on 22 November 1855 at Saint-Eustache in Paris. The closeness to opera andsymphonic music makes itself felt throughout the piece. During Gounod's lifetime numerous adaptations and new editions appeared, which prove the popularity of the work.
