This final volume in the critically-acclaimed series of Haydn String Quartets contains the two quartets opus 77 - Haydn's last complete quartets - and the incomplete two-movement opus 103. The volume also includes the opus 42 quartet - a work of more modest proportions and less technical demands than the rest of Haydn's quartets (included here, out of its chronological sequence, in order not to disturb the logic in the preceding volumes of giving a set of six quartets, as designed by Haydn, in each volume.
Simon Rowland Jones is renowned for his performer-focused editions, in which he presents all the evidence of the sources in such a way as to encourage the performers to choose the way in which they would like to perform it. The publication includes a preface and performance guide by David Ledbetter and features 'fold-out' page turns to avoid difficult page turns.
