Translated into English by Dorothy Wilder and the composer, this song cycle uses the classic stories of Prometheus and Pandora, myths of the Gods and fables to tell a story of strife╦its nature and origins. Notwithstanding its dark subject matter, Goehr's music is energetic with a fevered piano part in constant motion beneath the more lyrical vocal writing. A rewarding challenge for singer and pianist.
