Máté Balogh's Papuan Lunch is the third work in the composer's triptych for mixed choir based on exotic texts, following Zulu Nights and Arctic Dawn. While the Zulu- and Eskimo-language pieces tell distinct ''stories,'' the Papuan work leads the listener into a more abstract realm: its text consists of a sequence of proper names drawn from Papuan mystical folk tales. The invocation of these names generates compelling rhythmic patterns while simultaneously evoking the mysterious, perilous, and isolated world of the Papuan rainforest.

The work was commissioned by the Debrecen International Béla Bartók Choir Competition and premiered by the Kodály Choir Debrecen, conducted by Zoltán Kocsis-Holper, in July 2026.
