"A continuation of Cantata profana", said Ferenc László, a Hungarian music historian in Romania, about this work. Indeed, Kurtág uses in his cantata a Romanian kolinda text and melody collected by Bartók, which tells about the love of the Sun and the Moon, brother and sister. The composition, written for tenor solo, choir and chamber ensemble, simultaneously evokes the spirit of Bartók and recalls Kurtág's youth spent in Romania, while at the same time keeping in touch with the pagan and Christian past through the archaic text.
