Orbán's colourful Wind Quintet, first published in 1988, is an excellent example of the composer's sensitivity and remarkably wide expressive palette. The blending of contrasting styles and moods forms not a mosaic-like collage, but an organic musical arc across the work’s three movements. Thanks to the seamless transitions between grotesque, melancholic, and carefree characters, the music - rich in unexpected turns - continually surprises the listener.
