Gabriel Fauré (1845-1924), the French composer, wrote his lyrical piece Berceuse (Op. 16) in or about 1879, originally for violin and piano. The work quickly gained popularity thanks to its gentle, swaying melody, and it has since appeared in numerous arrangements.

The present edition is a transcription by the renowned Hungarian flutist Zoltán Jeney (1915-1981), who played a significant role in the development of Hungarian flute playing and education, and who inspired several prominent composers of his time to write new works. The transcription is suitable not only for flutists but also for oboists and clarinetists. It is an excellent choice for musicians looking to enrich their repertoire with a lyrical and expressive work.
