'When composing the present series I intended it as a practical study for concise composition. [”] The pieces differ greatly in difficulty, some of them can be coped with by the pupils at an early stage; others, however, presuppose several years of study, and the rendering of the complete series in a truly artistic interpretation is a task worthy of an accomplished pianist. [”] It is [”] worth while to experiment with changing the sequence of the pieces, since that of the printed version is but the most simple one of the possible arrangements and several other alternatives offer themselves readily by which shorter or longer strings may be made up from the given material. This might serve as a playful means for developing the sense for musical form. The main aim of submitting the present series is to draw interest towards the sound world of new music, and to make this sound palette more palatable for the musical taste of those studying music.''
