The First String Quartet completed in 1909 - a work that may almost be regarded as the precursor of the great orchestral folksong variation, 'The Peacock' - is based for the first time on elements entirely derived from folk music. The work was performed for the first time by members of the famous Waldbauer Quartet and was published in 1910. The recent publication is coming out as a volume of the series 'EMB Study Scores'.
